For the literature survey, you should have immersed yourself in the literature around your topic so that you know what articles/papers/books, etc are going to be most useful to your research in the future, and what isn’t going to be relevant/useful.
In terms of the product of this reading, you should have a document (one page is fine) that lists the useful stuff all in one place – perhaps 2 or 3 super useful articles/sites, and perhaps 3 or 4 others that you think will be useful to look at more carefully at some point. Next to each article, briefly summarize what it’s about and how you think it might fit into your own plans.
Suppose your research question is “Should prescription and use of medical marijuana be legalized in the USA at the federal level?”
For an example of the kind of things that you might list with this topic, there might be a couple of articles/sites that you’ve found that are really clear about the science of medical marijuana, perhaps one article that clearly explains what the federal law is on this topic, perhaps 2 articles that argue different positions on what the law should be (the ethical question), and perhaps 2 articles that bring up related topics that you want to think about some more.
